GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE CONCEPT OF LIBRARY
The word ‘library’ is derived from the Latin word ‘liber’ which means ‘a book’. Library is a place where books are kept for reading, study or reference.’ Libraries are now regarded as "service institutions". "Use of books" and "service to the readers" is the cardinal principals followed in libraries. Libraries encourage and promote reading habit in the minds of young children. They are helping reading for education, reading for information, reading for entertainment, life - long education etc. There are five laws of library science:-
